Isra and Miraj 2027 (Shab e Miraj) is the night of 27 Rajab 1448: Monday 4 January by the Saudi calendar, or 5 January where the moon is sighted later.

Isra and Mi'raj 2027 is marked on 27 Rajab 1448. The Saudi Umm al-Qura calendar puts that day on Tuesday 5 January 2027, so the night begins at sunset on Monday 4 January. Countries that wait for a moon sighting may be a day later. And behind the calendar sits a second question that most date pages skip: scholars have never agreed that the Night Journey happened on 27 Rajab at all.

Below are the dates, each with the page it came from, and then the disagreement, quoted from the books of the scholars who wrote about it.

Isra and Miraj 2027: the date at a glance

Short answer: 27 Rajab 1448 is Tuesday 5 January 2027 by the Umm al-Qura calendar, which makes the night of 27 Rajab the evening of Monday 4 January. If your country begins Rajab a day later, the night is the evening of Tuesday 5 January and the day is Wednesday 6 January.

Wikipedia's Rajab page gives the same Umm al-Qura span for Rajab 1448: 10 December 2026 to 8 January 2027. We checked these pages on 1 November 2026. No national announcement for Rajab 1448 exists yet, so every date here is a calculation or an estimate.

Why the date can move by a day

The Umm al-Qura calendar is worked out in advance by calculation. Many countries instead wait for a committee to announce the month after the crescent is sighted or ruled out.

The new moon falls in the early hours of 9 December 2026 (UTC). On the evening of 9 December the crescent is therefore very young, under a day old, and hard to see. In places that rely on sighting, Rajab may begin on 11 December rather than 10 December. That would move 27 Rajab to Wednesday 6 January and the night to the evening of 5 January. This is our reading of the astronomy, not an announcement. The committee in your own country decides.

So plan for a window of two evenings, 4 and 5 January 2027, and confirm once Rajab is announced around 9 to 10 December.

Shab e Meraj 2027 date, for readers in South Asia

Shab e Meraj is the Urdu and Persian name for the same night (Lailat al-Mi'raj in Arabic), and "shab e meraj 2027 date" (or "shab e meraj kab hai 2027") is one of the most typed phrases about it. The answer follows the rule above. By the Saudi calendar the night is Monday 4 January 2027. Where a local committee announces the Islamic month, the evening of Tuesday 5 January is equally possible, and the Rajab announcement settles it. Nothing in this article is a substitute for that announcement.

What is established about the night

The event itself is certain. Allah says:

«سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَىٰ بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلًا مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَى الَّذِي بَارَكْنَا حَوْلَهُ»

"Glory to Him who took His servant by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque, whose surroundings We have blessed." Al-Isra 17:1

The ascent is in the hadith. Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: «ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِيَدِي فَعَرَجَ بِي إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا» "Then he took my hand and ascended with me to the lowest heaven" (Sahih al-Bukhari 349). Surat al-Najm 53:13-14 speaks of a vision «عِنْدَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَىٰ», "at the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary", the same tree the Mi'raj reports describe (Bukhari 3887).

Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that at Bayt al-Maqdis the Prophet ﷺ said: «ثُمَّ دَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَصَلَّيْتُ فِيهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ» "Then I entered the mosque and prayed two rak'ahs in it" (Sahih Muslim 162). In Muslim 172, Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports him describing a gathering of prophets: «فَحَانَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَأَمَمْتُهُمْ», "the time of prayer came and I led them".

The gift of the night is the prayer. The same report of Anas ends with Allah's words: «إِنَّهُنَّ خَمْسُ صَلَوَاتٍ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ لِكُلِّ صَلاَةٍ عَشْرٌ فَذَلِكَ خَمْسُونَ صَلاَةً», "They are five prayers every day and night, each prayer counting ten, so they are fifty" (Sahih Muslim 162). All of these are reports from Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.

The full story, from the opening of the chest to the return, is in our article on the Night Journey. For the mosque itself, see the history of Al-Aqsa.

Why scholars differ on the date

None of the texts above says which night it was. The Quran gives "by night" and nothing more. The hadith reports give the story without a month.

Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on him), in *Fath al-Bari* (the chapter on the Mi'raj in the Book of the Virtues of the Ansar), says scholars disagreed about the time, with more than ten views. Three of the ones he reports show the spread:

Rajab: «وقيل كان في رجب حكاه ابن عبد البر وجزم به النووي في الروضة», "it was said to be in Rajab, reported by Ibn Abd al-Barr and affirmed by al-Nawawi in al-Rawdah".

Rabi' al-Akhir: affirmed by Ibrahim al-Harbi, a year before the Hijrah.

Ramadan: from Ibn Abi Sabra, eighteen months before the Hijrah.

On 27 Rajab specifically, Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (may Allah have mercy on him) writes in *Lata'if al-Ma'arif* that it is reported «بإسناد لا يصح عن القاسم بن محمد», "with a chain that is not sound from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad", that the Isra was on the 27th of Rajab, and that «وأنكر ذلك إبراهيم الحربي وغيره», "Ibrahim al-Harbi and others rejected it".

Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) went further and said the date cannot be known. Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) transmits his words in *Zad al-Ma'ad*: «ولم يقم دليل معلوم لا على شهرها ولا على عشرها ولا على عينها», "no known proof has been established for its month, its ten days, or its exact night".

The other side of the scale is real too. Egypt's Dar al-Ifta calls Rajab "the established, well-known view" among scholars and says that fixing the 27th has been recorded by many imams. It notes that al-Suyuti recorded more than fifteen views.

Our reading, as writers and not as muftis: the event is certain, the day is not, and 27 Rajab is the date most Muslims know rather than a date any text proves.

What people do on the night, and what scholars say

Practices differ by country. Some families recite the Quran, some attend a talk about the Night Journey, some do nothing at all. Scholars give two different answers about marking the night, and both are on record.

Shaykh Ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him) wrote in *Majmu' Fatawa wa Maqalat Mutanawwi'a* (vol. 1, p. 183) that «لم يأت في الأحاديث الصحيحة تعيينها لا في رجب ولا غيره», "its fixing does not appear in the authentic hadith, in Rajab or elsewhere". Because the Prophet ﷺ and his companions did not mark it, he did not count celebrating it as part of the religion.

Egypt's Dar al-Ifta gives a different answer: remembering the Isra and Mi'raj through acts of worship is encouraged and permitted.

We do not rule between them. If you follow one scholar or one school, follow what they teach. Whichever you take, the texts in this article stay the same, and the part that needs no calendar is the prayer the night brought. A fair question for that week is whether the five prayers are being prayed at their times. The virtues of prayer lists the sound texts.

A du'a said at Al-Aqsa, any day of the year

Your own du'a for yourself and your family is the closest and most sincere one. If you would also like a du'a said by name at Al-Aqsa Mosque, it can be requested through the du'a service, as an addition to your own. A video is sent by email, usually within 48 to 72 hours, and it is private to you. No authentic text makes a du'a at Al-Aqsa answered faster, and we know of no text that gives the 27th of Rajab a special status for it, so there is no need to wait for a date. The answer is with Allah alone, and nothing is promised.

Frequently asked questions

When is Isra and Mi'raj 2027?

The 27th of Rajab 1448 is Tuesday 5 January 2027 by the Umm al-Qura calendar, so the night of 27 Rajab begins at sunset on Monday 4 January. Where Rajab begins a day later because of moon sighting, the day is Wednesday 6 January and the night is the evening of 5 January. No national announcement for Rajab 1448 has been made yet.

Why do the dates for Isra and Mi'raj 2027 differ between websites?

Some sites use the Umm al-Qura calendar, which is calculated in advance, and others follow the sighting of the crescent. The new moon falls early on 9 December 2026 (UTC), so the crescent that evening is very young and Rajab may start on 10 or 11 December depending on the country.

What is the shab e meraj 2027 date?

Shab e Meraj is the Urdu and Persian name for the night of Isra and Mi'raj. By the Saudi calendar it is the night beginning Monday 4 January 2027. Where a local committee announces the month, it may be the evening of Tuesday 5 January, so confirm after the Rajab announcement.

Did the Isra and Mi'raj happen on 27 Rajab?

It is the best-known view but not a settled one. Ibn Hajar mentions more than ten views in Fath al-Bari, including Rajab, Rabi' al-Akhir and Ramadan. Ibn Rajab says the report placing it on 27 Rajab comes with a chain that is not sound, and Egypt's Dar al-Ifta calls Rajab the well-known view.

Is there an authentic hadith that gives the date of the Isra and Mi'raj?

No text we found fixes the month or the night. Ibn al-Qayyim quotes Ibn Taymiyyah in Zad al-Ma'ad: «ولم يقم دليل معلوم لا على شهرها ولا على عشرها ولا على عينها». Shaykh Ibn Baz also wrote that its fixing does not appear in the authentic hadith.

What is established about the Isra and Mi'raj?

The journey is in the Quran: «سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَىٰ بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلًا مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَى» (Al-Isra 17:1). The hadith in Bukhari and Muslim describe the ascent, the prayer with the prophets and the prescription of the five daily prayers (Muslim 162, 172).
